FAQs

Do you teach beginners?

Yes! We welcome singers of all experience levels and you will be placed with an appropriate teacher to meet you exactly where YOU are.

Some of our students are preparing for college musical theatre auditions, national competitions, and professional opportunities, while others are taking their very first voice lesson. We believe every singer deserves strong technical training and individualized instruction, regardless of experience level.

Our team will help place each student with the teacher who is the best fit for their goals, age, and experience level.

How do I get on Kaitlin’s schedule?

Kaitlin maintains a limited teaching schedule and is often at or near capacity.

New students are typically placed with the Inner Voice teacher who is the best fit for their age, experience level, personality, and goals. Many students begin with one of our outstanding associate teachers and make tremendous progress under their guidance.

Kaitlin personally oversees student placement and works closely with the entire teaching team to ensure that every student receives exceptional instruction.

When openings become available, placement with Kaitlin is based on a variety of factors, including scheduling availability, student goals, and instructional needs. Students interested in working directly with Kaitlin are welcome to join her waiting list.

Our goal is always to match students with the teacher who will help them thrive, not simply the first available opening.

How do I know which teacher is right for my child?

We'll help with that!

At The Inner Voice Studio, we carefully consider each student's age, personality, experience level, goals, and learning style when making teacher placements. All of our teachers share the same commitment to healthy vocal technique, artistic growth, and individualized instruction.

Our goal is to find the best fit—not simply the first available opening.

What makes The Inner Voice Studio different from other voice studios?

At Inner Voice, we focus on developing the whole artist.

Strong technique is important (and man, oh man, do we teach that!), but we believe technique exists to support storytelling, confidence, and authentic expression. We combine healthy vocal training with performance skills, audition preparation, musicianship, and artistic development.

We also prioritize long-term growth over quick fixes. Our goal is to give students skills that will serve them for years to come, whether they pursue singing professionally or simply for the joy of it. Take a listen to our singers HERE to see how we are training our singers!

Do students need to be interested in musical theater?

Not at all.

While many of our students participate in musical theatre, we welcome singers with a wide variety of interests and goals. Lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs and musical preferences (pop, rock, folk, jazz, classical, and whatever else might interest you).

What ages do you teach?

We work with children, teens, and adults.

Students are generally most successful when they are able to focus for the length of a lesson and are excited about learning. If you're unsure whether your child is ready for voice lessons, we'd be happy to discuss their individual situation. In general, 8 years old is a good time to start with shorter 30-minute or 45-minute lessons. Depending on the student, around age 10 or 11 is a great time for hour long lessons for extremely driven and focused students.

How often should students take lessons?

Most students see the greatest progress through consistent weekly lessons.

Regular instruction allows students to build healthy habits, develop technique, and make steady progress toward their goals.

My child is already a strong singer. Do they still need lessons?

Absolutely. Kaitlin is the perfect teacher. She often works with professional singers who are looking for more efficiency and sustainability in their singing. Kaitlin has exception ears and can immediately hear holes, issues, weaknesses, and spots of tension that the singer might not even be aware of.

Many talented singers rely on natural ability early on, but eventually encounter challenges with range, stamina, consistency, auditions, or vocal health. Lessons help students develop the technical foundation needed to perform confidently and sustainably.

Even advanced singers benefit from expert guidance, refinement, and individualized feedback.

My child wants to pursue musical theatre professionally. Can you help?

Yes. Most definitely, YES!

Many of our students participate in high-level theatre productions, competitions, summer intensives, college auditions, and pre-professional training programs.

We provide individualized guidance in vocal technique, repertoire selection, audition preparation, performance skills, and long-term artistic development.

Do you prepare students for college auditions?

Yes. We highly recommend getting into lessons as soon as possible as college auditions are becoming competitive. We can help if you reach out to us right before your Senior year of high school, but the sooner, the better.

College audition preparation may include:

  • Repertoire selection

  • Audition cuts

  • Prescreen preparation

  • Technical development

  • Mock auditions

  • Coaching and feedback

  • Application timeline support

Our goal is to help students present themselves authentically and confidently throughout the audition process. We offer a college audition workshop program in the Fall/Winter.

Will voice lessons help my child get cast?

Voice lessons can absolutely strengthen a student's skills and confidence, but casting decisions are ultimately outside of our control.

Our focus is helping students become stronger singers, storytellers, musicians, and performers. We believe that long-term artistic growth is more important than any single role or audition outcome.

Do students have opportunities to perform?

Yes! Our students often perform twice a month during workshops and we have two recitals a year.

Throughout the year, students may have opportunities to participate in workshops, performance classes, studio events, masterclasses, and other enrichment programs.

We believe performance experience is an important part of artistic development.

What should I expect from the first lesson?

The first lesson is an opportunity for us to get to know the student. You don’t need to bring anything in particular - just yourself!

We'll discuss goals, assess current skills, learn about previous experience, and begin building a plan for future growth. Most importantly, we want students to feel comfortable, supported, and excited about the learning process.

Do you only work with students who want careers in the arts?

Not at all.

Some students pursue professional training, while others simply enjoy singing and want to develop their skills. Both goals are equally valuable.

We believe music education has benefits that extend far beyond the stage, including confidence, discipline, creativity, communication, and self-expression.

What kinds of students study at Inner Voice?

Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience levels. Some are singing for the very first time, while others participate in competitive theatre programs, college auditions, summer intensives, and advanced performance opportunities.

Regardless of experience level, every student receives individualized instruction tailored to their goals, strengths, and learning style.
